HIDs 4100k or 5000k

installing an HID kit once the E36 arrives.
I'm leaning towards 4100k for its functionality.

I'd say 6000k which is actually 5400k. It is the optimal light output. It emits the most amount of light without losing any like what happens when you go above 6000k to like 8000k.

4100k allows the most visibility, according to my sources.
where do you get that information?

4100k is white light, while 5000k emits a slight blueish hue...6000k - 8000k emit more blue light which eventually lead to you straining your eyes.

Umnitza.com amoung other very trustable sources will tell you that 6000k aka 5400k is the brightest and emits the most amount of light without going to the point of eye strain or loss of light. I'm waiting for Ty Vil and others to chime in here.

thanks for the heads up, I got my info from Phillips. I'll look into 5400k some more.

I believe 4100k is actually the highest light output, don't remember the exact figure in lumens...Also, just for reference, I have had my 4100k next to various sets of 5000k and 6000k lights, and everyone seems to agree that they put more light out on the road. For functionality with a very ample amount of that "HID" color, 4100k is your choice. 6000k will give you a much more purple look at the sacrifice of a couple hundred lumens IIRC. However, it should be noted that 6000k is still an amazing increase over a set of halogen lights, so it really is all relative in the end.

BMW uses 4500k stock. The hightest light output I have seen available is 5400k.

no offense man...but 8000k to me appears like riding about trying to light your path with UV lights

everything I've read points me towards 4100k for maximum light output. I don't care how they look, I'd rather have the best lighting possible for performance driving than a "cool" blueish hue. function over form, but in this case 4100k isn't necessarily ugly either.

no, F-U! you get to drive around in an NSX you lucky bastard. I never insulted your choice to go with 8000k, my comment was simply made to express the point that I've had a difficult time seeing in cars with 8000k equipped HID kits.
