| X5 3.0L vs 4.4L My dads shopping for an X5 right now, Im trying to get him to go for the 4.4L, but he's pulling towards the 3.0L because of the MPG. On the sheet it says the 4.4l only gets 1 MPG less in the city than 3.0L but freeway is basicly the same. Kinda a hard to belive that the 4.4L V8 would get almost the same gas milage as the 3.0L V6

| well one of the reasons that hte 4.4 might get better gas mileage is that it has a 6 speed auto while the 3.0 has a five speed auto, unless ur dad is planning on getting a stick x-5 (which kinda suck, ive drive them) i can see how the 4.4 and 3.0 get similar mileage

| the 3.0 has more work to do to push the chunk around hence why the mpg is almost the same, where the v8 has more natural power and under the right conditions will almost equal the same mpg!!

| The older x5 4.4 had a different transmission and got horrible gas mileage. But the newer one ( after the minor face lift) has the new 6 spd. transmission and gets basically the same as the inline 6 3.0. The only other advantage to the 3.0 is that you can but 87 in it. The 4.4 requires 91.
