| 740 motor in obdII m3 a buddy of mine has a shitload of wrecked bmws he got this really nice m3 in with bad motor and he is gonna swap in a 4.0 into it rather the stock motor to me this sounds idiotic. i would think the weight would make it pointless |

| yea prolly gonna turbo this motor until it goes and then swap in a 3.0 but theres alot i gotta do before that still need susp (next week) pulleys, cams, chip, clutch, larger radiator, fuel pump, injectors, brakes, so im along ways from a turbo |

| I thought the 4.0L was aluminum and like 15 lbs lighter than the iron M3 block? also the V-8 design will put the center of gravity further back, so strip the trunk and get a lightweight battery.

| yes the v8 does work very well in the m3's.... or any 3 series. the v8 motor is physically shorter than the 6's so the weight is mostly over and behind the front axle making it almost mid front engined. and thats always better for handing. also yes, the weight is very similar. the power is similar too, well in the australian spec cars anyway. 3.0 m3's usually dyno up at 225rwhp, 4.0 v8's are usually at about 210. however more power can be gotten out of the v8's because they're not as highly tuned and strained from the factory. however the v8 has a very different character to the I6. a race prepped 4.4 would be something very nice to drive in a 3er though. m3 gtr anyone???
