If you worked at a dealership.....

What would you do? How would you take advantage of it, and rape the company for all its worth?

I just recently started working at the local BMW of Richmond dealership (as a lowly detailer, but i get good money) and already I've gotten my dads car worked on for 140 instead of the 430 it would have been if I didnt work there.

What would you guys do? What kind of parts would make your life easier? What kind of tools would you be lucky to have around, and at your disposal?

I ask based soley for entertainment purposes, so fantasizing about illegal activity is ok with me, I know ive done it

Better yet, how about working in a body shop like myself with the hookup of wholesale parts. Some people have no idea how much it really cost. Esp. how much it REALLY cost to paint a car... Thats why i will never leave the business.

after working at VOB BMW in Rockville MD for nearly 1 1/2 years...i will never ever set foot to work in a dealership ever again.

Though the discounts are nice, its easy to see why dealerships are so frowned upon. Being on the inside lets you into their dirty secrets and how the mislead and treat customers.

Yet here i am wishing i still worked there JUST because im in need of a control arm so badly...the hook up would be so nice right now. Other than that it sux ass.

The DIS system is great to learn on too...try to work with it and diagnose cars. It teaches you a lot.

I simply take advantage of my discount on parts.
It's nice.
I'm not trying to rip them off at all.
I may also buy an M3 Sedan off them too at a good price.
I also get to use all the fun BMW systems (ETK, TIS, Centernet, DCSnet, etc...)
Other than that, I just do my job.

lol, i didnt wanna rip them off, fools... I just want some ideas on how to take full advantage of my situation... Things like learning DIS, using lifts, getting parts cheap, blah blah.

And I dont care if anyone from Richmond BMW sees this...

you will have fun. I certainly had tons of fun. I got to drive Alpina Z8's, Z8's, M5 and M3's on a regular basis and got to know every platform very well. The DIS system is a great tool to learn about if you want to become a future mechanic. Im sure after you become good friends with some mechanics, you can hook up and use the DIS. I wouldnt suggest stealing it though! its worth some $30k.

Plus, the best thing ever to come out of my time at VOB: a wonderful 1996 Cosmos Black M3 with Modena interior.....for oh no! $9,000 dollars!!!! mwahahahaha

Parts manager should be getting parts at what they are worth before they get to the dealership.

If you work for a car accessories store....as long as you can get a hold of the resale certificate and tax id you are able to buy anything at wholesale prices....

I get wholesale price on any part that has to do with an automobile

best thing i've found knowing everybody that works at our local dealership is cheap tires for autocrossing. When somebody dents a rim or something they take the rim tire and all and usually have quite the stockpile of nearly new tires you can get for like $10 a pop. Find a 17in ZR elsewhere for that price.

hey man its an M3 and i drive it like it was meant to be driven! The whole tire situation is very true! I have had to buy tires now for over 1 1/2 years already! Free tires galore at dealerships and Rims too.
