anyone else extreamly dissapointed with the new 5 series as i am, in my opinion they look cheeply built almost like plastic on wheels, i also hate the new a4s/a6s i think they have both lost their sleek simple solid look...

Probably because you talked shit about another member's car and knocked his choice when you hadn't even been in pissing distance of one. And the fact he's got an M Coupe clearly visable in said photo's and you drive a 323 doesn't in my book give you any crediability when it comes to commenting on the performance of either car you mentioned.

If 3ths of a second to 100k makes a car that much better he should have saved money and bought a Vette. Although, perhaps he wanted a practical, comfortable, well build car with design and aestheic functions that appealed to him over the new 5.

Reliability? Go check out some of the M3 owners comments on their forums. The fact BMW had to issue a world wide recall on the S54 engine (some 48 000 units) because of bearing failures and had to replace 1,000's of engines under warrenty doesn't argue a really strong case for BMW.

IMHO, Audi is the only other midlevel Euro brand I'd go with. If I wasn't in a BMW, I'd most definately be in an Audi. I dont own an E36/E46 ///M3, or either version of the S4, but I have a touch of wheel time on an E46 and the current model Audi, and really, I loved driving both. I think that the Audi is a great car, especially if you need a practical car, but if you want a fun car, I would say go with the ///M. But as it has been said, I think they are two totally different cars, and its gonna be hard to really compare them. Its like the way a bunch of domestic guys I know are comparing the new C6 'Vette to the new Charger. Its a sports car vs. a performance sedan.

However, after reading this thread, I would say that this really is a battle that wont end, because of the companies. We all know that the Audi and ///M3 are different kinds of cars, but untill Audi and BMW stop trying to compare them, it wont stop. I would love to have an ///M3 or an S4, and for my next car, I'm looking at E36 ///M3s and last generation S4s. I will also say that, after the expierence we are having with our current Merc, I will never purchase one again, until Daimler dumps Chyrsler on its ass out in the cold.

Discovery Auto creates 1000hp M5's

Okay so the Audi can push around 600 on its twin turbos but that supercharged m5 is pushing 1000hp. Stock is one comparo but modded that a whole nother story

Im sure they can get 1500 hp out of that m5 and 1500hp out of that rs6 if somebody feels like making it. But how much will it cost, lots of $$$$$.
And how long will 1000 hp last when driven alot?? Not very long...

yea u couldnt run high boost to get that much horse power without replacing a lot of internals
