Got rear ended today!!!

Today some woman in a mini van infront of me slammed on her brakes to let a kid cross the street, during rush hour!!!!! I stopped with no trouble. I look in my mirror and my friend wasnt paying attention and was playing with his friggin iPod. He was goin about 50 mph and hit the brakes 20ft before my car. He got down to about 10-15mph and swirved to the right, and clipped the right rear of my bumper. I got out expecting a massive dent, scrapes, and a shattered tail light. But all that happened was a series of huge scratches and about 10-20 different cracks in the bumper. Basically, it shattered. So all I need is to buy a brand new OEM bumper for an E46 323i, have it painted Jet Black, and installed. I was just wondering how much you guys think this will cost. I figure between $550-$750. But i am worried about damage behind the bumper. Tell me what u guys think.

youre looking about $1k to start.....email me some pics. i run a bodyshop in nj. i would recommend you to go to foreign motors west in mass. they are a mw certified bodyshop as am i....bob is the manager there.

your friend may be in luck... Here is an add from the Boston BMW Chapter classifieds

Baer, i am not going to get a used bumper, bcuz the person who hit me is paying for it and i am not going to settle for anything less than perfect because it was 100% his fault and he admitted it.

Thanx for the help tho, if u were worried that i might have trouble finding a bumper, i wont. I really dont care how much it costs to find a new. I'll order one straight through BMW for all i care.

After replacing the bumper holders (that crumple to absorb energy) on a Z4 race car about 20 times in a season, I can guarantee that you will have to replace at least one of them. You would be surprised at how light impacts ruin these things.
