Just got my 8500 X50

hey sup guys. i finaly made ma decision and picked up my x50 2 days ago now i left all the stetings to factory i didn't touch anything i pluged it in and left it on Auto mode but i have noticed that there is cops on my tail sometimes and it doesn't do anyting is there anything wrong with the radar? or do the cops have to have their radar on in order for my radar to alret me? please i'm a newbie with this thing and i have never owned a radar detector before and i would really like it if you experienced guys out there can give me some tips on how to use it thanx.

I have the same radar with the blue screen, and the one thing that I've fully come to notice is that about 66% of cops dont have their radars on when they are driving around or even sitting in the median. The only way the alert goes off is if they are actually clocking somebody. My laser has just recently been detecting a cop seconds before they clocked me. I always figured that it would never pick up laser until it was already way to late but when in traffic ive noticed it has caught the signal seconds before bouncing off the cars in front of me. I've been real happy with mine aside from the fact that its made me a little bit too confident out on the road. I just say always have it on and ready. You will start to memorize which stores set off which bands. I usually ignore X bands and know which Walgreen's and shit around my hosue have K band for their doors. Anytime i see Ka band i slam on the breaks cause its almost 100% for sure that a copper is somewhere near. The only complaint is that it doesnt have the directional arrows like the Valentine. Just be ready to defend it against any Valentine owners, they love to tell you that your radar is a piece of shit....

one other thing i forgot, apparently the police, in an effort to be a bit more stealthy, ahve a mode that their radar only goes on when cars are approaching....like motion sensors or soething....but if thats the case, then you dont know they are coming till they see you and you see them...usually though, you will see the radar fluctuating in signal strength and you get somewhat of an idea that they are around....

hahah, no definitely dont. I had the same concern when i noticed cops always around and nothing going off...but when i was going a bit over thelimit, and they didnt make a move or anything, i figured they were probably just slacking off like everyone else likes to do at work...

Hey man, I got one of them last year and it is def the best thing I bought for my car by a long shot. It has always given me soo much warning before I even saw the unit clocking me, it saved me from what would have been HUGE tickets on soooo many occasions. Great choice, enjoy it!

mount it high if u can...but it doesnt matter much

i would recomend a hardwire setup as well. you can get the kit from escort for like 20 bucks

Yeah def as high as you can, and be prepared to have to replace the suction cups after a few months...but they are 4 or 5 bucks so thats no biggie.....

I was wondering about those suction cups, because mine seem to be loosening up alot already and ive only had mine since christmas. Where would you order those from. And i defintely want to hardwire mine eventually seeing as it gets really annying having that cord run through the center of my console.

The x50 doesent have a dual antenna setup like the valentine 1 (patented by mike valentine) So its rearward facing radar is weak.

Also if it says self calibration, its fucked and needs to be returned.
