im pretty sure the e36 ix never came state side or if they ever made it at all...but the e30 325ix was the first 3 series to incorporate the system. I believe it was in 1988 when it made its debut.

They DID make an E36 IX, and yes, it did not make it state-side.. I want to say it only existed as a prototype. If any of you have the big blue BMW encyclopedia, you can find a picture of it in there as a wagon/touring.
