Old pads & new rotors

I replaced the pads and rotors on my daily driver (Integra) about a year ago. I guess I didn't properly bed the pads in the rotors casue I've got a whicked vibration when I brake from 80 mph or higher.

The pads are nearly brand new. If I got new rotors could I use my old pads, or do I need to buy new pads too?

Thanks!

Trev

im not 100% sure with what happens, but i know old pads + new rotors isnt the smartest thing to do. I'll try to better explain later, if i can .... back to work

I replaced all 4 rotors on my car with OEM stuff and used the existing pads. The pads were not too badly worn. Everything's been fine for months.

Did this problem start exactly when you did the brake job? And have you been driving like that for a full year?

It's not the greatest idea to use old pads with new rotors. Basically because the wear patterns will be different.

I wouldnt do it. anytime you put two parts that cause friction with each other, the grooves from one will form in the other. Sooner or later....., its just a matter of time

That's what i thought But i figured I'd check with the experts before I bought all new gear.

I only really notice the problem when I have to break from highway speeds 80+ to exit ramp speeds 35, that's when I get a little shakeing in the steering wheel. The car stops fine, the shakeing just bugs me.

Thanks for the help!

warped rotors or your lug bolts are wayy too tight, re-torque em to 85 ft lbs and see iof that helps. over tightening lub bolts can warp rotors.

i ran into that same lug bolt issue last spring, I had my summer tires put on and I noticed that about a week later the rotors all of a sudden felt that they were warped. It turned out to be the lug nuts.

What year is this Integra? Could be loose suspension, worn bushings etc. that make a small vibration more noticable.

OR

You said daily driver right? Do you drive like this every day?

Could be you are just warping the rotors by braking hard and holding the pads to the rotor at the end of the ramp stoplight. Or elsewhere for that matter.

Could be material transfer on the rotors too. If you jam the shit out of your brakes to a light and stop but don't let off the brakes the pad can melt a little onto the rotor.

My suggestion
Take the rotors off, get them resurfaced at autozone or a local place for $10-20 each (Rotors on some cars CAN be cut guys! ).

Take 100 grit sandpaper and sand the surface off the pads on a flat surface then clean them with brake cleaner.'

Put it all back together and do a proper seating. 6-8 stops from 30 to zero and then let the car sit for a half hour or so.

OR

Upgrade your brakes or driving skills, or both.

Should work

It a 2000 Integra, I'm pretty sure the bushings & suspension are ok, but I'll have my mechanic check them next time I'm in for a tune up.

I'll look into getting the rotors resurfaced and retourqe my lug nuts while I'm at it.

Thanks for the help guys!
