Franco-German motors to power MINI, Peugeot and Citreon Cars
Since 2002, BMW and PSA Peugeot Citroen have been working together on a series of small gasoline engines, and the 2006 model year will see small and mid-size Peugots and Citreons as well as MINI-brand vehicles equipped with the new BMW-PSA motors.
Initially two engines will be available: a 1.6 liter variable geometry turbocharged motor with 115 hp and a 1.6 liter direct injected compression turbo motor with 143 hp.
The BMW-PSA engines feature innovative technologies derived from both companies' expertise, such as variable valve timing, lost foam-cast cylinder heads, direct injection, fully controlled oil pumps, twin-scroll turbochargers and self-disengaging water pumps. The two 1.6-liter engines are the first in a family that will eventually include motors with power outputs ranging from 75 to 170 hp.
