Towing Nightmare

i went to the mardi gras celebration in the city (Galveston TX where I go to college)........i go back to my car and it was the only car gone.

i got someone to pick me up and take me to the police department, had to report it stolen......well i foundout around 7am this morning that it was towed.....and by the law the guy who tows it is supposed to report it by 1am....he had it written on his computer that it was dropped off at the lot at 10pm last night.....so i thought he was gonna give me a break but when i got there to the impound lot he not only threatned not to give me my car back because the registration wasnt in my name (its a Massachusetts registration and plates because thats where I live and I just go to college in TX, the registration is in my dads name for insurance purposes) and he was going to report it stolen by me.....its in my dads name.......and he charged me 200 to give it back to me.....not the 150 that everyone else is charged, and he wouldnt give me a receipt to proove it ever happened....so its not like i can go to the police or court with my problem.

I havent slept all night, I beat the hell out of an air conditioner I was so pissed, my hand is messed up.

Any advice as to what I should do about my problem if there is anything I can do. I have eyewitnesses that were with me through the whole problem.

i wouldnt have paid him, now its pretty much done and over with. plus in all reality the trouble of fighting it even if he still had your car isnt worth your time over $50

Next time you deal with the police video tape it. They sure as hell video tape you when they deal with you.

sorry to say it but there is pretty much nothing you can do about it now unless you can prove what actually happened. should have reported what the impound bloke said to the cops and also that it hadn't been reported by 1am. then HE could ahve been done for something (ie, theft, not reporting moving a vehicle without consent, blah blah.) and you could have got your car back for nothing.
