i actually prefer the mercedes interior. the only blah i see is the design/color of the buttons on the console. the design itself is awesome

When I first saw pictures of the E55, I thought it was not that great, but in person, that car is beautiful. I am liking what I see of the CLS even in pictures already, so I can't wait to see a 55 in person.

I think CLS55 is a beaut. Aside from the gigantic Ford-like buttons in the interior and 16lbs of wood interior is tight. It's a pretty serious contender.

I guess it depends on what the buyer is looking for. It seems as though the author would choose the Merc because of its aesthetics, and lack of "hard edgedness." He also seems to be biased towards mercedes too, where he talks about them "merely giving the nod to AMG" if they wanted a car to crush the M5. On that note, if BMW wanted to do likewise to Mercedes, they would also "merely" give the nod to the Motorsport division. I think if Tiff Needell were doing this article, the result would be much different. In the end it comes down to personal preference. I personally think that mercedes aren't a true enthusiast's car and tend to look outdated very quickly. I'd rock the M5

that pic of the cls is beautiful, i saw one this summer in europe and it truly is a work of art, very different than anything else theyv tried.

hahah yeah the accord's ass does look like a rip-off of a benz...when i first saw the new accord from behind, i thought it was a C-class. i know the bmw and benz are similar in size, but does anyone think the CLS looks way too fat? don't get me wrong, the car looks great, but a bit too porky. also, i'm surprised that AMG only got 460 bhp out of the car...compared to the E55 (476), S55 (500), CL55 (500), SL55 (500) and even the G55 (476) have way more bhp, as well as way higher torque...usually 700nm. and how does the M5, with a V10 only have 383 p/feet of torque?

Every one of the Mercedes engines are under rated. I can dig it up if I have to, but there are two separate gentleman with Merc cars, one with the new S600 and the other with an E55, and on the dyno, both made nearly the same number to the rear wheels as the engines were rated at the flywheel. Also, it is known that the engines are detuned a good amount to save on transmission wear and tear. The gentleman with the S600 I mentioned with the addition of a RENNtech chip and DR's ran 11.9 and 11.8 passes with his otherwise stock family sedan (12.2-12.3 before the 2 mods).

In the torque issue, the AMG's make huge torque with the use of their suprchargers. The reason the M5 doesn't make big torque even being a V10 is because it is tuned for high revving top end power. Notice the AMG maxes at 6300rpm and the M spins to 8250.

I don't really like the new looks of either these cars..
pully kit/software/suspension on the E55 and see ya...
