| pics of my rotors / pads... are they fux0red? first of all, happy thanksgiving ![]() alright, here's a quick story. For the past 3 years, my maxima has been squeeling 95% of the time I applied my brakes. The pads are OEM btw, which shouldn't squeel. When I took off the wheels last year to take a look, the pads were had good life left in em still, but I did notice it didn't have the "brake kit", which were the shims that go behind the pads. Fine, I went to nissan and bought them and installed them with anti-squeel glue but I still had the problem. I gave up and now the squeeling is getting to me again and i thought I was running out of pads. I took a look again today and I think I have good pad life left in em still, but the rotors got me questioning myself. Please take a second to take a look and give me any feedback... i'd really appreciate it! Thanks. here's how one of my front rotors look like this morning... i can see all these grooves, and i think they are warped but can't tell visually (discolored slighty? could be morning rust tho) : hmm.. looks like ther's a good amount of pads left on the rear, right? Anyone know what that yellow stuff is that's around the surface of the pads? I noticed em on the other side too. farther angle of back rotor: |

| from the pics, ur rotors are fine and u got a bit of brake pad left... ur rotors are meant to have grooves on them, it is not meant to be flat... the most important thing u want to look for is rotor wear but as i said, it is okay from the pics... are you sure u correctly used the anti squeal glue? did u pur then on the backing plate of the brake pad on the points they clip onto the calipers? most people dont know but the squeal comes from the brake pad moving and rubbing with you calipers....

| for thre record, its pretty damn hard to diagnose break wear through pictures......besides, you usually cant see a warped rotor, you feel it.

| Given that its been 3 years, I'd say just go ahead and replace rotors and pads all the way around, but if you don't want to/can't afford it: Take your fingernail and run it along the rotor, from inside at the hat, outward towards the edge. If your nail catches in any of the grooves, or on the lip at the end, replace the rotors and pads. The squeal could just be from semi-metallic pads wearing on the rotors. They make anti-squeal lubricant, but I can't remember the specific name at the moment.

| They look seriously glazed over to me. Take some sandpaper to your rotors... and your pads... and put em' back together with some disc-brake quiet on the backing of your pads. -Matt |

| what grit sand paper do you guys recommend? I already ordered replacement pads and rotors so they're on the way... in the meantime, i am goin to sandpaper these and find out if that was what the problem was all along... thanks! |
