Who are the better drivers? F1 or WRC

Personally I think it's the WRC drivers, they can do it both, on or off road at speeds over 100 mph. While F1 drivers are in the most technically advanced cars that are so amazingly capable. I think they're both very close but I think the WRC drivers edge them out. What do you think?

i would say that an f1 driver could probably be quick in a rally car, but a rally driver would have a tough time being comparitively quick in an f1 car...the reflexes required to drive an f1 car are absolutely astonishing, and WRC doesnt come close. my $.02

Like comparing apples and oranges dude, they are both amazingly skilled at what they do.
Don't be fooled by the amount of research that goes into a WRC car either..
Once again, I don't think they can be compared.

that is true.

WRC is at my heart. Carlos Sainz was one of my favorites and will be forever. From the Corollas to the Citroens. Rally drivers edge them out in my opinion, but it is a question that cannot be adequately argued.

depends on what areas you are comparing.
in terms of driving skill and car control it would be close but i'd call f1 the leader just becuase of the speeds involved and the way physics comes into play when you're cornering at 250+ kmph and pulling 4g's at the same time.

in terms of fitness, thats hard to call. f1 becuase of the huge forces that are put on the driver during the course of a race and its 2 hours of that non stop, but rally drivers becuase they do it in a sauna for 3 days on end in several chunks at a time.

but like rob said an f1 driver could probably be fairly quick in a rally car but i doubt a wrc driver would be as comparatively quick in an f1 car.

very hard to call as they are different sports. you vary rarely hear of a drivier coming into F1 that has been bought up on rallying, or on the other hand a wrc driver thats come up through open wheelers and touring cars.

even when his corolla broke down in the rally of France just 100 feet before the finish line? It was pretty cool when he started bashing the windows with his helmet.

When you consider the speeds and g forces at which F1 drivers travel, as well as the reflexes they need to do their job properly, I would say they are the best drivers.
On the other hand though, the way rally drivers control their cars (which are no slugs either!) with virtually no traction truly amazes me... another thing about rally driving is the unpredictability of the course - rally drivers have to be aware of things like fallen tree branches, rocks, crazy spectators running in front of their cars, etc.

But as has already been said, we are comparing apples with oranges.

if you go back about 10 years in f1 to when they were running no traction control and 1000 odd hp turbo 4 cylinders it would have been like driving a rally car except you've only go 2 wheels doing to driving

It's hard to compare the two: WRC involves lots of drifting, while F1 is all about traction. 2 really different styles. In terms of overall skill, you can't forget that WRC drivers often have to make repairs in the middle of races and make due w/ what they've got. If it's any indication, it seems to me (I could be wrong) that WRC drivers get in a lot more accidents, so maybe WRC is more difficult.

I think WRC would be more difficult for a higher percentage of randomly selected people that were given the oppurtunity to do both.

thats true. most people toatlly loose the plot when their car starts to slide. hust don't understand how to catch oversteer or correct understeer. then they're totally lost if the car goes into a 4 wheel drift.
