should i get a 2001 s4

i need opinions because ive only ever driven in one and it was chipped. i like the car but how are they stock whats the modding potential ect ect.

the s4 is a fun car to drive, but they have had ALOT of problems..everyone who i have talked to who owns one has had some problems with it, so i'd research it before u buy one, but there is alot of stuff u can do to it

Audis, especially turbo models, are certainly not extremely reliable cars, and of course fairly expensive to fix. The S4 is pretty bad in that dept, being that a 2.7L twin turbo engine is stuffed in an engine compartment meant for a 1.8L single turbo engine and most work requires removal of the engine. However, reliability aside, the tuning potential of these cars is phenomenal. Add a chip and you're looking at around +50HP, exhaust and dp's, and you maybe could have 350 or so at the crank. The turbo setup is very easy to get power out of, and for much less $ than other non-turbo cars. My friend has a 2000 S4 and with just a chip he can leave me pretty good. Good luck!

I bought a 01 S4 a few months ago. There are countless upgrades and mods you can add to it. You don't have to spend big bucks to get over 300 horse.
All you may need is the right chip.
The car is loads of fun to drive and with the Quattro System it great in all weather. Just make sure you get the six speed, In my opinion it's the only way to go.

Basically, it is a hit or miss with the Audis. My Brother, roommate and I all got lucky and bought good ones...but my buddy back in NH bought a NEW 2001 1.8t, and EVERYTHING that could have gone wrong with it, did.

All I have to say is if you decide to buy one.....get it checked....if it's ok, then fire it up.

My other friend has a 2000 S4, and he put the RS4 conversion on it. Fastest Car Ever. Of course it costs about 10g's, but if you have the $$$, it is worth it.

27-29 grand with between 28-37k miles i have found

i was in the market for one about a 3 weeks ago, it was between s2000, s4, or e36 M3. Guess which one i chose lol.
-s2000 too weak, and it's the miata's lesser gay brother.
-s4 i drove it liked it but i just hated the back end of the car. The way it looked so old. Also, the new audis that just came out look so much better, it kinda puts that one to shame. All in all i liked the e36 M better as far as looks. from what i've heard, reliability is an issue with this car and it's a pain to work on if you're a do-it-yourselfer. S4s are FRIGGIN HEAVY TOO.
- e36 as far as looks, is better; Because, the coupe just looks hot. handling i liked better in the e36. S4 seemed more luxurious though. e36 cockpit revolves more around the driver versus the passengers.

i say get one if you get a decent price on it but look for Blown M3s you'll spend right around the same.

If you get a S4, get a 2001.5 +. They fixed almost all the problems wiht it. as for the b5 s4 looking old... . BTW all S4s are 6speeds. As for modding, almost limitless. A chipped S4 will beat a E36 M3 with exhuast/chip/intake, and a stage 2 S4 (downpipes,chip,exhuast) will beat a blown m3. Also a chipped s4 is just as fast as a new (B6) S4. I got my S4 over a E36M because i needed it for winter and was easier to mod and less miles. Don't get me wrong i love M3s. goodluck.
