New Street Racing Law

so guys and girls (if you're out there), how do you feel about the new street racing law in california. pretty gay, huh? For those of you who don't know, on October 9th California passed a new law saying that if you are caught street racing, they take your car and destroy it along with penilties and fines. any comments would be appreciated. -Mike

seems a little harsh but that won't put a stop to it. That will cause more accidents IMO, people will just try harder to get away. There needs to be a venue for them to go to at those times.

They will just never get it, the more pressure that is put on the bigger it gets. California already had the strictest laws against street racing and it still has the biggest street racing scene.

If they don't want people street racing they shouldn't make their roads so nice. I'm sure all the hot girls there are to show off to out there doesn't help either.

you gotta be kidding me. The type of roads has nothing to do with it.

New York roads suck and same goes for Mass so you should know better. There is still street racing over there.

or the girls.

anyways, its really going to put more pressure on the people to get away, to push harder to get away........that extra inch. It is not going to get any better by putting these strict laws.

im not a full fleged lawyer or anything, but i have taken a few pre-law classes and i think that they will have a very difficult time enforcing it, particularly for out of state drivers, states like new york tried to have a similar penalty for drunk drivers, but the problem arose when the the car was leased, or still had a lean from the loan taken out on it and the cops couldn;t do anything to those cars, its sad to say this but a good lawyer would solve the problem

They shouldn't have the right to DESTROY your car if you've been caught racing once. That's absolutly rediculous unless you killed someone by causing an accident. What if you had a car that you put a crazy amount of money in and they just crush it how would you feel? I definitlely agree that it will make the situation take a turn for the worst people people don't want their cars crushed will do anything to get away.

As long as it's legal to own a car nothing should give the government the right to destroy it.

yes i can't see how that's legit? anyways, it will make some people lessen up on street racing while others will push the envelope and be crazier and more ignorant.

It sounds like something that will probably be enforced for serious repeat offenders as an example to others... I doubt they will be crushing every first offender's civic.

As has already been stated... a good lawyer can get you out of 99.9% of traffic offenses, when a $xx,xxx car is in question a good lawyer is certainly worth getting.

if it came down to being pulled over and having my car crushed or running, the choice is an obvious one.

see the problem cali is having with street racing ontario is having with insurance, the other day i went to get insurance for my 96-328is n as soon as they put in my name a message came up asking the person operating the computer if they were aware of my age along and the same thing with many other insurance companies. But i do agree this new law in cali is gonna make ppl run from the cops more and many more car crashes will be caused from it and no doubt innocent ppl will be hurt in the mean while
