ATTN: E36 Radio deaths? Umm..

Something really weird is going on, you'd think this would be related to mileage or radio use, but all of a sudden this is happening to a lot of people and I'm thinking it's related somehow.

A couple weeks ago my radio turned off, after a while it turned on again and asked for CODE. Figured the power cable was messed up right? Nope, after a while it totally died. I installed a new head unit onto the same power wires and it's FINE, meaning it was internal. Random power cut-outs from INSIDE the head unit causing it to ask for the code again? This is weird. There's at least one other thread on here and it just happened to my friends M3 as well.

on my 95 m3, my radio started to completly die as well...

Two weeks ago my brother and i were driving and 3 hours into our 2 day road trip the radio in the my 95 540i just started acting up, and then there wasn't anything working, and then it would do all kinds of weird things. i turned it off and about an hour after no music i was like ok im going to try it, and it worked fine after that. We actuallt think that maybe some condinsation from the ac vent right above it caused it. The ac in that thing is sick, and water will bead up on the vents, so i dunno, but i was turning on and off the ac so i would keep the radio and it seemed to work, well as far as i know, because that may have not been the proboblem.

whoa - hold up..
I'm having this problem too. A couple times recently my stock headunit just goes out. It's only happened when my mom and sister have been driving the car, but they've both reported it and when i go restart the car to look it's been fine.

weird.
