Is an m3 that much better?

I just wanna know what makes an m3 motor better then a 328, they are based off the same motor right? Is it possible to build a 328 into a m3 motor?
And what other things makes a m3 better, suspension, luxury. Is it really worth buying and m3 over a 328 if your gonna do alot of supage upage.

thx.

I'd personally rather have a 328 and hook it up a lot... i like the challenge

with an m3 i'd spend the money i would have spent on mods for the rest of the car... i dunno, m3s are sweet tho, suspension, engine size, speed, power, seating, accesories, aerodynamics, rims... all better..... your choice really

Let's not get carried away...

There are many significant differences though, not just the engine.

you can make a normal e36 handle as well as an M3 with normal suspension modifications, but I believe the M3's steering rack is more sensitive, and if you get out of a dropped e36 with suspension mods and jump into an e36 M3 immediatlely after, you'd see what I was talking about.

Also, you can do anything with an M52, it's just going to cost you.

Just sell your car, and buy a '95 M3 for relatively cheap.

we have a sport package for the e46 and e36 at RRT ( http://www.roadracetech.com ) It basically turns an e36 or e46 3 series' suspension and handling into that of an m3 but a little better.

Even if you make it faster then an M3 (which is pretty easy) and you make it handle better you will still always have a 328

I own a 96 328 and i can say that it has been pretty costly to get it up to par. if i could do it again i would buy the m3 and drop $10,000 in mods instead of the 328 and $20,000 in mods. Your pretty much wasting your time and money with the 328 unless you like the challenge of doing the upgrades, or if you plan on leaving the 328 stock and just drive it around. The m3 is a much better base to start at.

So an m3 is more worth it. So are 95-99 m3's all the same? if not what are the differences? and which is the best one to mod.

thx for your comments.

'95 is better if you want to turbocharge or supercharge it. i'd prefer a '97-'99, because i'd just do some basic mods: suspension, kit, chip, and minor engine mods.

If you look at the performance differences between the two cars, as well as the subtle asthetic differences, the cost of getting a 328 engine/chassis to put out the numbers and performance that an M3 does FAR exceeds the difference in cost between the two cars to begin with.
