2004 E46 M3 or 2004 S4

I am getting rid of my mini soon and i am looking at two cars and i need some help. I am looking at the new 2004 s4 and a 2004 e46 m3. both are new either one i will probably order cause of the options i want. Any optinions anyone can offer would be great. This choice has actually been causing me alot of stress lately. The m3 is in the lead now for certain reasons one is that it is a bmw and i am obsessed also because the possiblities for modding ore much better. Thanks in advance.

I worked as a bmw and audi salesman and I drove every model and type of BMW and Audi.. The week before I left the S4's came in.. I was kind of tired of driving BMW's at that point just because I was in them everyday and there are tons around... Then I got in the S4.. It was awsome.. Nobody was supposed to drive them but I took it up to the Canyons and tore it a new one with 3 miles on it.. At the end of the day I went back in a E46 M3 SMG just to say goodby and after I ripped that one a new one I have to say..

Winner... M3..

The Audi AWD S4 was cool but the M was and is in my book still King..

Another Bad ass car in that class... C32 AMG..

I drove all 3..C32 wins, but I liked the S4 better than the E46 M3
I drove that card hard with HSR.

They are all fast, but none have the monster torque of the C32
The only downfall argument is the Bnz auto, but the C32 has a great AMG Speedshift that never lets you down..

true- - that is my only complaint about the C32.

I live in So Cal we have the worst freeway in the US , I think, itts one of the worst, It leads for OC to LA, and I have to drive it allot, so in that situation I love the auto, but an E46 M3 with a good driver steps up, I wish I had a stick.
Those things are very fast off the line.. I catch em though, and in the top end 4th, M3's get beat pretty bad.
Poor drivers in the M3's geat beat everytime..
The speedshift is solid..

The Benz' other downfalls are the fact that it's great capabilities still don't match the m3's. Handles good, but not in m3 terrotory, as mentioned, the transmission, and the fact the the m3 manual isn't just any six speed, but one of the best ever (SMG is still miles ahead of speedshift as a "manual). the AMG has great torque, but doesn't like to rev. It's good to have either or, but in the M3's case you have BOTH. Consider a relatively flat torque curve, peaking at 262 lb ft. out of 3.2 high strung litres. Torque won't match the C32, but the m3 doesn't have a perfect balance of torque vs. hp, but perfect torque and hp, period. It's better than a balance. It's motorsport bred, whereas the C32 comparably merely remains a powerful street car. It cannot match the m3's all around abilities. The C32 wins most drags between the two, but that doesn't matter at all, because their times are not far apart at all, if at all.

Alltogether, all of the cars are fast, but none of them are the pure bred sports car that the m3 is.
