Why can't BMW dealers have good info

I just wanted to vent a bit. I asked my dear salesman at Capital Euro Cars if BMW was going to have the E66 760 in a short wheel base. He was all like "Oh BMW wouldn't do that. They have always had their V12 on the long wheel base." So I bought and 745 and a 760. I was on a flight to NY when I just about shot someone. There in an ad was a jet black 760, and I was like, "wow what a sexy 760...just like mine...OH F@%$ing wait! Thats a short wheel base. Lets just say that I had a few words with my salesman about this matter...and he felt like a total ass...he ended up buying me about 500 in BMW gear and reduced the lease on my 745 quite a bit. What would you guys do if you bought a car based on a notion that the one you really wanted wasen't going to be produced. What would ya'll do?

How sexy is that. The long wheel base barely fits in my garage!

don't know if the law is the same as it is over here, but i know that over here you could do the salesman/dealer for negligent misstatement. from how i interpret it you would be able to sell your car back to bmw at its price when new and get a 760i for whatever the going price is for one of them.

but as i said, don't know if you can do that over there. you'd like to think that a salesman would know that sorta info though.

or u could just let it go and walk away with 2 ridiculously nice cars, a lowered lease, and some free BMW stuff. granted he shouldnt have mislead you like that if he didnt have the information (clearly just aiming at that sale) but having a 760Li i just dont think is reason enough for shit to "hit the fan". i dunno tho, thats just me

i don't thinik thats the reason he's chasing it up. its probably more because the salesmans information was incorrect and this lead to the sale of a different car to what was wanted. how would you be if you walked into a dearler to put down a deposit for a new M5 and the guy told you "no sorry that car is't being made you'll have to take a 545."

i can see exactly where you're coming from and i agree with you to an extent but this really shouldnt happen in the first place so i think that something should be done. especially when it involves the companies flagship car!

Well if I read correctly, you've had your 760LI for some time now, the 760i is brand new, they just released it this model year. I haven't even seen one rolling around my neighborhood and thats a testament to how new it is. It's just ignorance that he didn't know of the new 760i most likely. The fact that he gave you free stuff is really cool though, even though 500 BMW$ is like two pens and a mug.

when he bought the 760li, there was no 760i, and we dont even know how much BMW knew at that time, let alone the dealer. the guy should not have acted sure about anything, but geez let it go. This stuff happens all the time, with every car company. its a matter of bad timing. and there is no way in hell the 760 is BMW's "flagship" car. I dont care what publication you got that from. most expensive does not equal flagship. M3 or M5 more like it.

Agreed, I am assuming, the dealer had no melicious intent when he misguided you. I too would be upset, just like I was when my 330Ci was delivered without Xenon headlights. But he is trying to please you. I'd take it out of him when you buy you next car.

As far as flagships are concerned *cough cough* Z8 *cough*

If I got a new car delivered without xenon lights after requesting them I'd shit a brick, did you let them get away with that?

I obviously didnt pay for them. But I needed a car. I did get them back however. I ordered individual because I wanted all the premium stuff EXCEPT the sunroof and the autodim mirror. The dealer had begged and pleaded to get a sunroof, but I refused. I told them I was gonna keep the car for 10 years, and they shouldnt worry about the resale value. I had to wait for 3 months with a Mustang with no headlights, and a "characteristic" electrical system.

Three months after taking delivery of the 330Ci, I went back to the dealer, dumped in their lap, and bought a CPO e46 M3.
