| BMW M102, M106 and M30 6 Cyl. 2 Valve (2.8 - 3.5 l) Engines Motronic 1 (-9/83); without fuel pump drive 745i 3.2 l L-Jetronic M102 Motronic 2 (9/83 -); without fuel pump drive 745i 3.4 l Motronic M106 M1 M88 had mechanical fuel injection derived from Formula II and 2002Tii M10 engines. Early M30 (2.8, 3.0, 3.3l) engines used Bosch CIS/CIS-E constant injection. Late M30 (3.0 3.3 3.4), prior to Motronic Change point in 9/83, also used Bosch L/LH injection. Judging from the picture, specificaly the intake manifold, that is an M102 using Bosch LH injection control. The 745 series was pretty bad ass for its day. Beefed up cam spray system as well as a direct crank spray system, enhanced windage tray, forged crank, forged roads, hypereutectic pistons, some factory ceramic coating here and there. Well worth the tag in 1983. In fact I've heard it mentioned that the 745 was just barely overtaken by the 750 from a performance perspective. Of course the 750 also brough along the new chassis and a wealth of new gadgets and nifty features but thats where the money goes. If you wanted to beuild a real sleeper then a 745 witha dogleg 5 speed and 4:41:1 gears would be the ticket. Strip the badges and all they see is an old E23.

| Thats the same thing I'm using in my car right now. That is the M106 engine, it didn't come with an Air bypass valve (BOV). Mine setup is a normal M30 from a 535i e28 with the M102 (with BOV) 745i goodies transferred. ![]()

| There is one with 500+hp in Finland and one in Sweden. Both have been built by the same guy. 0-62mph in 5.3secs and 0-124mph in 17.4secs. Could be better with acceleration-times but you can´t fit the slicks because the transmission can´t cope. More info: www.autopower.se ---läsarnas bilar... |
