What should i do? (Buy new car, fix car, what?) I got this e-mail from my dad today, wanting advice, and i decided to turn it over to you guys, any opinions are excepted, thanks in advanced: ok, son, here goes the news and my request for you to research how I should handle these
suggestions from Audie service, from Firday when took in.
First, there is a slow leak somewhere of engine collant - have to fill up reservoir every 203 days when sensor light comes on
about low level. They determined that it5 was the auxillary coolant pump down deep in engine.they estimate it will take 10 hours plus the new pump ( $175) and misc parts - total for that job $1,200 over 1 - 1/2 day.
Then they saw an oil leak so think that the value cover gaskets and tensioner gaskets are going bad - say needs to be addressed soon - leak will only get worse. Takes longer to do this - more like 12 hours and $1,300 for repair of gaskets and chain tensioner. And, because they say the timing belt has not been replaced and should be with "this amount of mileage" -( 84,000 mi) that they could do both valve gaskets and timing belt at same time when engine is apart. ( thus only charging me another $1,000 instead of $1,500 for the timing belt change because it might be done at same time!)
Whew. So, what do you think? wait on timing belt? take to a non-dealer mechanic to do work? trade in car before this work and get new machine ( your Mom's idea)
It is a 2000/2001 Audi A6 2.7T 6-speed
