Are OBC's interchangable?

The pixel display on my OBC has crapped out. Does anyone know if one could put a different type in. In the manual it shows like three types. One is fully decked out with average speed and fuel economy stats. Another is like mine and it has the Check Control feature with external temp. The third is like only the external temp.

I am wondering if I can put the better one in just by plugging it in, or do I have to keep the same type? And where can I find one that is used?

If you want to put the same type you have in there now, it will work fine.

If you want to upgrade to the 18-button OBC, you will need to do some wiring:
