CLK 55 vs E46 M3

My friends dad just got a new Mercedes Convertible CLK 55 AMG. I am wondering if a stock E46 M3 would be able to beat it in a straight line.

hi lucky3, anywho, you better be damn sure that you get 1st and 2nd gears perfectly, cause I drove the 04 CLK 55, and that thing has got torque to spare! I would approach that race with caution. You could probably take it, but AMG has a nice tranny on this one.

don't think, that the m3 could keep up, cause the clk has 24hp more and it's got a bad-ass v8 and additionally the automatic just shifts as fast as shit, so i guess the benz would be faster.

but it's no question what you have to buy not to be a lamer...

i watched a video on this, a short video of the two cars racing. The first time the two cars raced the M3 won (by a hair) The second time the CLK won (by a hair). So what i could tell from the video was that its probably going to be up to the driver.

Which car would i rather be in if i won or lost by a hair? The M3.

My M3 is a coupe and my friends CLK 55 is a convertible. The CLK 55 is a heavier car and the transmission delays a lot when you shift.

it'd be up to the driver of the m3, as autos are always more consistent

did anyone ever read the march 2003 car and driver when they wrote about their long-term e46 m3, they got it to do 0-60 in 4.5 and the 1/4 at 13.1, but that car burned 14 quarts of oil over 40k miles

The ClK55 will be close to the M3 and the C32
The C32 and M3 are close in a straight line, the C32 will have the slight edge. M3 will track better (stock) and depends on driver/conditions. The C32 and The ClK, C32 wins Slightly.
I have no idea about the track
The M3 and the CLK will be dead even in a straight line, no idea about track.
edit the kicker is,
The E46 M3 and AMG C32 W203 cost in the mid to low 50's
The CLK 55 is 70K
The new battle will be the C32 vs C55

What year is your friends CLK? If its the old model, its not the same car we are talking about.
