| BMW has always been conservative with their 0-60 times. Their time for a 330i was 6.4. R&T posted a 5.9 for the sedan and a 5.7 for the coupe.

| I like "0-120mph time, which is offically put at 'less than 13.0sec' Looks like they are taking old F1 v10 and mashing them into the M5 ![]()

How would a 7 speed manual work? I don't think it would, they need SMG; additionally if you are going to say they should throw a 6 speed in there, I think it would be impossible to get the right gearing for that high-rev engine (for 0-60 and top end.) BESIDES, for the 100,000th time, SMG IS FASTER THAN A MANUAL, and a LOT easier on the clutch (I don't care how good you are, the SMG computer knows exactly how fast the clutch and flywheel are spinning, it virtually eliminates slipping and friction when downshifting.) At this point, with this technology, the only way a conventional manual will be faster than SMG is if the driver is power shifting (ie. over-reving the engine and letting it slip when he upshifts.. obviously horrible for the clutch.)

| Around a track the SMG will be faster any day of the week. It can shift faster than any normal human can.

| Sorry for my stupidity but could you explane me please what is SMG... I mean, how does it work? Is it something like steptronic? or is it autotransmission??? I don't get it ![]() |

| the SMG = Sequential Manual Gearbox. It is still a manual transmission, but like Ferrari's F1 tranny, it has an electrohydraulic clutch that is computer controlled, not by the driver. There are manual and automatic modes, and the shifting is done either by paddles behind the steering wheel or by the shifter on the center console. Shifting is made faster than a person can, and it is an expensive option on most new BMWs. 3 coupes, M3s, 5 series, Z4 3.0.... I might have missed quite a few details but that is what I know.
