| Engine Siezed??? A crazy thing happened to me today.
I was driving my grandparents old car home from school. We just got it about one week ago. When I started it up I heard this clicking sound which varied with the speed of the engine. I assumed it probably needed some oil even though my dad checked it and said it was fine a few days previously.
I began driving home (about 3 miles from the high school) and when I was less than a mile home my check oil light came on. I immediately began to pull over and while i was getting on the shoulder my tach hit 0 and the car was doing some serious engine braking. I immediately though that the engine had seized.
My dad thinks this is not the case.
In a frantic to figure out what to do I opened up the glove compartment and came across some information about an "emergency fuel pump shut off switch" which I guess comes on when there is a problem. I am not sure if this has activated or not, I have never heard of this contraption before today. The car is a 1990 Mercury Sable and is in good condition, but this switch seemed to be broken. I called my dad and he got a tow truck to come pick the car up.
I was pretty pissed, because I have waited two years to get a car and now when I have access to one for a few days it dies. My dad said he thinks it is the alternator that needs to be replaced. I think he might be wrong, he said the idiodt lights in fords never work properly anyways.
Any thoughts? Thanks
