89' mustang fix question

My friend has a 89' 5.0 liter Mustang and the engine wont start.There is spark and the engine turns over but it doesnt start.There is a new alternator on it and the starter and coil are fine.He was f*ing around with some wires in the firewall and now it doesnt start. We tried the fuel inertia switch and tried replacing the fuel realy switch but that doesnt seem to help.How do i figure out if the fuel pump works?When you start up the car the check engine light goes on. Also how do i know if he cut a important wire or something is there a ecu diagnostics port or something that will tell me? I know its kinda broad and its about a mustang Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

When you turn on the key but doesn't use the starter you'll hear the fuel pump during 1-2 second then it will stop.

Just get the code from the ECCIV with a Equus code reader. Around 15 bucks everywhere. And the Haynes manual shop for 79-93 mustang will help him a lot. Very complete wiring diagram.

But the sad thing is that no one like to answer this kind of problem. specially when you f***** with the main wiring.

Thanks for the info man i really appreciate it. My friend was being a dumbass and trying to install his stereo system. He had cut a hole a in a rubber piece that holds the wire through the firewall and had a short circuit and probably sliced through a wire.But anyways thanks for the info.

when you turn the key to the "on" position (but don't turn it all the way to crank the engine over)you should hear the fuel pump build pressure in the system.

instead of trying to hear the pump turn on get some carb cleaner and spray it into the intake tube and try starting it. if it starts and shuts off the pump is not turning on and might need replace ment.
