I was just given a BMW for free!

Yes it’s true. Friends for mine just gave it to me because it was too much to keep it running. It’s an 86 535i with allot of miles on it. Right now it runs but I wouldn’t drive more then I would what to walk home. Most everything on it works but im just going to get the most cash I can for it. Back in 92 the 535i was bad ass it ran soo good and had allot of power, but its time to say good buy.

How do you think I could get the most money for this car? I don’t want to lie and leave some poor sucker with it. Should I just try to sell it for parts? I know the tires and rims would bring some cash. The tires are expensive to get because of the odd size. But what am I going to do with a car with no tires? If I donate it to one of those non-profit people on the TV I hear you only get $50 or a tax write off.

Dose anyone have ideas of the best way to make some money on this car?

yea, i agree, part it out like a beast, or try to fix it up if you could because that would be a big pimp car, even though you already have a WRX...shit, just part it out.

How do you think i should part it out? Maybe post on BMW forms of place a ad in autotrader? The only prob is that then at some point im going to have 1/2 of a 535i and will need it to be towed away.

I would just try to sell it in one piece if you don't want to have to jack with everything that goes along with parting it out. What are the current problems with it. You could fix it

There cant be much wrong with engine, I also have a 88' 535iS with 226,000 miles on it. Just put new plugs and wires on it and it runs perfect. That 3.5 engine cant be killed, it's bombproof.

i would look into the donating option more before you completely rule that out not only for the reason that it might benefit you but also to ensure that in donating the car will give you a decent break in your taxes. if you file your taxes on your own, then it is probably not worth it. however you could have your parents donate the car and then they can claim the tax writeoff giving them more of a tax break because of their higher tax bracket, then you could arrange with them to receive some or all of the deduction they received. if you consider this just call around first and find out what charity will give you the better deal. once that is figured out find out if the charity you are donating it to is recognized by the IRS as a "worthy" charity. sadly enough there are people in this world that say they are charities when they really aren't. you could also just call someone, or the person that does your taxes, and ask them.
