For the Nurburgring junkies (new productin car lap record)

Some of you may know about a vehical called the Radical SR3. It's a street legal track car use primarily in Europe.

The car uses a Suzuki bike engine and 6 speed sequential gear box (the same in the Hayabusa, iirc). A newer version, turbocharged, was the car to break the N'ring record. The Radical is one of the cars the new Bahrain F1 track will use for it's "home" championship series, though SR3 series all over the world are becoming more and more popular because of the SR3s price of around ~$32,000.

$32,000 for a two seater car that can pull 2gs, beat any production car around most circuits, and is road legal? I'd hit it.

here's a description of the SR3:

and

http://www.pistonheads.com/doc.asp?c=61&i=3510

here is the article about the record (though you can find a good one on the Radical Motorsports site:

I find it really hard to believe it is considered a production car. Sounds like the Saleen S7 when it first entered the American Le Mans series and people made a huge fuss because they only sold a handful of street cars to the public. Regardless of classification, it seems like it wold be a lot of fun to drive. I really just wanna know what it is like to drive a sequential gear box.

From what I hear, this is full production line car that has pretty large output volume (5000-10000). I know in Europe there are A LOT of race series out there and there are a lot of people who have this car...

..it's a bold statement but this car is a new classic race car. It's popularity and price make it really a powerful force in recent race history.

Simple put, if you want to get a Radical, you can. There's no exclusivisity to the line and they'll produce as many of these as people want.

It's cool but I agree, doesn't count as a "street" car in my book, for a million reasons.

In the UK it's street legal and passes all crash tests...

Mind you, the UK isn't a country obsessed with SUVs and Pickups (I like pickups, but for utilitarial reasons. Americans are ****ing car morons). You can get a plate for them and drive them to the store or around the M11 if you feel the need.

No chance of driving that onto the roads without osmoene definately dying in it.

I saw this on a TV show, the car went incredibly fas, but I'd NEVER drive it in the U.S..

As for a production "street legal" car, I wonder if there are any out there with different body on the same chassis, cause that setup would have to be only a fair weather car with the exposed cockpit like that. The website said they offer a cockpit cover but I couldnt find a pic and i dont think they mean a cover as in covered for driving.

Also found this pic on the site:

theres an article in some magazine that i read where they did a comparison between bikes and cars to see which is faster an they used a radical as the car to beat (along with the m3 CSL, the GT3 and the murcielago) they raced against a stock GSXR-1000 and a modifed pretty much race spec GSXR1000. the radical was only like 10th of a second off the laptime of the faster gixxer on the track (i think the laptimes were a little over 1 min).

anyway they mentioned the radical doing the 'ring and the bike guys made a challenge saying they could beat the ring time. if you guys want to see it someone with webspace PM me and i can get it for you.

This car was in a recent Total BMW I think. It was the favorite in a Japanese enduro race. One of the drivers (and American) wrote an article for one of the BMW magazines. It was a very interesting read because there was a lot of technical jargon and info about the car.
