Anybody purchase a car from a private seller overseas

Has anybody ever purchased a car overseas from a private buyer? I was looking into purchasing a car, but this person is located in Europe. What's the best way to deal with something like this? He suggestesd shipping and escrow companies, but I'm afraid of fraud from escrow companies. Heard something about a lot of the escrow companies ripping people off.

Any suggestions?

Let me guess, this is for a new E46 M3 or new M5? there are numerous scams for those cars with people pretending to be outside of US.

I would stay away from it.

i would stay away from private sellers unless you plan on going to europe anytime soon

After getting a few replies and hearing a bunch of escrow frauds, I dont think its worth it. I guess unless I do it in person or something, the chance of fraud is way too high.

I was hoping for a way like COD without transferring any funds.
Looks nice, sounds like a good deal...but I'll look around.
