In the newer 2.8L 3 and 5 series engines, the blocks were made of Al (as in the 2.8L Z3). This seems to be the engine to look for when doing an e30 swap because it's around 50-60lbs lighter than the standard M50.52/S50.52 block (and almost as light as the M20 block).

So, let's say you were going to do all new internals, an S52 crank, an S52 head, etc...

Will this block work?
