my e36 m3 has about 42,000 miles on it and i have been using 10-40 straight should i switch to synthetic like mobil 1 10-40 or 10-30 and the freezing cold 5-30

Id say Amsoil is a pretty good substitute thats what I use. I think more people use Mobil because of its availibility, pretty much every retail store carries Mobil but I have yet to see a walmart, target, etc, carry Amsoil
