| Help. Need to quiet ticking motor. I need to know what I can put in my motor to quiet down the lifters from tapping so damn loud. I have a 98 Honda Passport (Rodeo) that sounds like a diesel. I want to sell it but it sounds like crap. I bought the truck for $10,000 and between me and the warranty company, we have spent $25,000 keeping this thing running in the last year alone. I want to get rid of this thing before it blows up again! Thanks. |

| Like TDC said, it sounds like you had oil starvation and one of the lifters is partially stuck now. This should be covered under warranty. It will involve taking the head apart though. Try using BG MOA 44K, pretty damn thick stuff. Also, try a thicker viscosity oil in addition to what TDC said. |

| Thanks guys. No warranty left unfortunately. 111,000 miles on it. I'll try your suggestions. |

| Straight 50 weight oil and marvel mystery oil. Warm the truck up and bounce it off the rev limiter for a minute or two. The MMO will remove the varnish on the valvetrain and may break free the crap that is hanging up the valve. The 50 weight will act like a sound deadener in the cambox. One of those old used car sales tricks. http://www.stewardenterprise.com/ste...acing_oil.html Thoroughly warm the truck up before anyone comes to buy it and remeber to say "NO BACKSIES" when you get the money order. No checks cause they can stop a check.

| If it is the same engine as a 98 Isuzu Rodeo, it has adjustable valves. I don't know if extra oil will help or not.

| If extra oil doesn't work, do the GMC trick (they do this off the line at the factory if the engine ticks), add a quarter quart of diesel oil. It's worked on everything I've ever done it to, no adverse affects unless you like retarded ticking. |

| There is some stuff made by Gumout that works. I believe its called stop tick. It's specifically formulated to reduce or eliminate lifter tick. My jeep used to do that in the mornings when she got up there in mileage. It worked. You can find it at any auto parts store. Pete
