whats wrong with my v1

hey guys i have a couple questions some of you might be able to answer. Arite i bought my valentine one radar about a month ago on ebay, i baught it from this guy that lived in new jersey i think. It was unopened. My radar seems do be working fine when the cops have their radar guns on me but when im just driving around it never ever detects the cop. Its on all bogeys mode and still it never detects any cop. Ive been driving side by side with them multiple times and still it never comes up on the radar. I have no idea why it never shows them but all i can come up with is that maybe the chip or something that detects the cops in new jersey were different from the ones down here in california. I was just wathcing mishcief3000 and was wondering how dados radar was able to see every cop that was driving by. If any of you could help me out to why it is this way that would be great. Thanks for the help.

Maybe the cops you were driving by didn't have their radar/laser guns on or you didn't set your V1 at the right place. Put it up high, but lower than the colored part on the top of your windshield.

Dude, it doesn't detect the actual cop, it detects the radar....Not all cops have radar in their car, in fact, most don't.

The cops in Mischief where all trafic cops/cops who knew there were speeders so they all had radar on.

Americans must be lucky

Every single RCMP and CPD (Calgary PD) car has a radar mount, and every time they go into the car, they bring the radar in, and test the radar for calibration using tuning forks. If it's more than .1km/h out, they take it back in, place it on the "Recalibrate" shelf, and grab a different one. On average a small town RCMP Unit (Fort Sask for example), will have one Radar unit go in for recalibration a week. So, they're recalibrated on average once every eight or so weeks.

By the way, a good RCMP officer friend of mine said that his entire detachment has figured out how to beat radar detectors. They will hit you for less than a second, and just get your speed (detector waits 3 seconds for it to go off) then if you're speeding, they hit you again for exactly two seconds (to lock it in) then lock it in, and pull you over. Bam, got you and no detector ever went off. I've personally seen it done against everything from Escort 8500s to the cheap Viper things, to V1s. It's interesting being a ridealong for 7 nights straight, you learn a lot of interesting stuff.

But, Jared is right, most cops don't just cruise around during the day with radar. Very pointless if you ask me, because half the city uses radar detectors. They're lookin out for the guys who weave in and out and blow past you. They'll set up speed traps, not run around with radar on. It's not cops on the road you have to worry about, it's ones off the road.

its becuase the cop didnt have his radar on. its a radar detector, not a cop detector.

i have mine on advanced logic mode, it works the best around here and ignores a lot of the false X band alarms.

i wanted to get a valentine.. .too much money tho... i got a crappy cobra.. its done its job of saving me till now!!!! but someday ill improve to it

anywho yeah my cobra also has that problem like any other radar.. it doesnt get the cop car.. its just the radar when its on... when the cops were drivin in the 3000 gumball and dados was goin crazy its cuz they never turned em off.. they just drove off to catch the person wit them on.... hope that helps...

what do you mean it waits 3 seconds? If a V1 picks something up, its gonna let you know right away

No, Radar detectors aren't instant alert. None are. They need to figure out what it is first (computer takes 3 seconds to figure it out), and as such, before you even know you're hit with radar/laser (if you ever do find out before you get pulled over), the cop already has your speed locked in, so it's too late.

It's the highway trick for radar. In the city they usually leave it on constantly cause you'd be flicking the beam on/off button constantly.

And if you care to test my "fact", come up to Alberta, and go 140km/h on a 110km/h road. Maybe american cops just aren't that smart

Just think about it, if it doesn't know what it is, it's not gonna tell you that you're being hit by it. For all it knows, it's some airplane.

When you are the only person on the road, then a radar detector is pretty useless. It works the best when there is traffic around so that it can pic up the radar that the cop is shooting at the cars infront/behind you.

My dad got his V1 when they first came out like 10 years ago, the first night he had it we were out on some back country road(we were the only car for at least a couple of miles) and all of a sudden the V1 goes off and my dad gets a ticket.

Keep in mind, it's a radar detector, not a police detector.

Get a V1 once you save some money up. I had a cobra and currently have a Bel Electronics radar detector in my beater car. Nothing can top the Valentine One.
