| this is right off the project car article.
"For the Project Car, this "something" came about when DTM Power visited the PTG facility in late January to see where the famed M3 racecars were built. During our visit we managed to purchase 3 carbon fiber lightweight wings from PTG, and one these wings would serve as the basis for the rest of our exterior modifications.
Originally painted in white, we would have liked to expose the carbon fiber and then clearcoat it for some protection. Early on it was determined that this was nearly impossible to do, so we decided to paint it to match the titanium silver stock paint. This wing did not come with the trunk lip that is normally standard on the LTW wing. The parts guy at PTG assured us that the wing could still be mounted without it, but we felt it would look strange with just the wing and not the corresponding base.
To purchase an exact replica of our wing from PTG would cost close to $3,000, so we need to find an alternative source for the base. Various shops that sell the factory the LTW wing swear it is no longer available with the height extensions because they are not legal to drive with on the street. After some searching we located a shop that not only sold these extensions, but also could obtain the base we needed as a separate part.
