What is the story behind Alpina?

Is it a special model of BMW like the M's and CSL? Or is it just a after market company like Dinan? Were Alpina BMW's ever sold in the US? If they wern't sold here can parts and/or engines be imported? Why would you want Alpina parts vs. any other aftermarket company?

Alpina is recognized as a small auto manufacturer in Germany. Bascially they take BMW's from the factory and install their own engines and suspensions among other things, and sell them under the Alpina badge. You can get parts in the states but entire cars are still a long ways away since they dont have the production capacity for the U.S Market. So far the only full alpina car ive seen sold in the states is the V8 roadster (Alpinas version of the Z8)

There are a few grey-market Alpina cars in the US, but they have never been sold here (with perhaps a few modern exceptions)

Motor, suspension, frenos...

Es muy caro, pero el trabajo que realiza es muy bueno.

Hoy en dia es como una marca de coches más en Europa.
