| Me and my dad were talking and he finally saw how bad I want an M3. After a lot of thought he decided that if I get my grades in school pulled up and i just turn my life in the right direction (things are going pretty bad) then he would surely get me an E36 M3. Anyway, to my point. Since I'm going to be looking in the market for one pretty soon, can you guys give me a few pointers or tips for what to look for and how much I should be paying for a good E36 M3? Thanks for all your help guys! ![]()

| If looking for any used car I would always get a CARFAX history report. You should never fail to get a Vin No. check. And if you buy it from an individual he/she should have a history of the service done to that vehicle. If you find somethin that you really like and the carfax is clean,, I would still spend a few hundred dollars to have a dealership look at and appraise the car. It may cost like $100 or so but it's worth it, and will save you a lot in the long run. E36 M3's aren't cheap to service and nor are any other Beemers as I'm sure ya already know. but these website may help when your ready www.kbb.com www.cars.com www.autotrader.com Let us know what happens! good luck. ![]()

| I would run a carfax but I would not just look at the carfax and be like oh it checks out. Cause most shit doesn't ever show up on the carfax. Even if it has been wrecked there is about a 90% chance its not on the carfax. It also will not tell you any current problems with the car. If you wanna be sure the car has not been wrecked just find a body shop that will allow you to bring the car to them and use a paint thickness gauge on every panel(the dealership might also have a paint thickness gauge). The number that comes up won't mean a whole lot by itself, but compare the number to the numbers that come up for the other panels. If one of the numbers is much higher then the rest then that panel has been repainted. For all of the other things that might be wrong with the car just do a search there have been a ton of threads with about the same question. Hope that helps, Mark Last edited by Nitrous115 : 11-21-2003 at 01:47 PM. |

| Do you guys think Ebay would be a good place for me to purchase an M3 on? There aren't ANY M3's in my area so I'm going to have to buy from out of town anyways.

| ebay is cool...but don't buy it until you drive it. People do some weird stuff to cars that you would only pick up on if you actually see it and drive it. For example...ever hear of sawdust being blown into the body of a car as a quick-fix for rattles and vibrations? Ya, me either until I saw it first hand. Gotta love NY. Good luck. |

| #1 advise from me is be patient, wait until you find the M3 you like. For a 95 M3 with over 100k miles in good condition you should pay around $14k or $15k. Make sure you test drive it and get a pre-purchase inspection done by a BMW dealership. What year are you looking for??

| It doesn't really matter what year, just as long as it's E36. I'm looking for a black, blue, or silver one though.
