Rear end clunk?

I hear a clunking sound when i go from accel. to decel. in other words when im in gear and let off the gas i hear a clunk in the rear end area. Has any one ran accross this problem before?

Yes! In my case it was my differential carrier bolt backing out. Three times so far. Have someone get it up on a lift ASAP and check it, before, like mine, it potentially shears through the differential casing resulting in the need for a helical weld.

Does it do it when you go from accel-to-decel AND decel-to-accel ??

Thanks it was the carrier bolt it was loose, problem solved thanks CMT.

Classic sound. I thought it could've been your rear upper strut mounts...i'm glad you found the problem.

How did u end up fixing it? DId u do it yourself or did someone look at it? I have the same problem...

Just put the rear of the car up on jack stands and c.k. the diff carrier bolts there is three.

had the same thing, kept breaking the bolts and had to get a larger gauge bolt, try doing that if you have the same problem again.

c.k. = check. just make sure all 3 of the bolts are there and that they are all tight.

I better check mine! its been doing that for a while I changed my RSM and they still clunk. Did yours clucnk in decel/accel or accell/decell? I think mine might do it for both, but im positive it does it from decel/acell. When Im in 1st and let off a little and get back on I hear it creaking, but when I turn corners at slower speeds I hear clunking. Is that similar to waht you were experiencing?

MY car only did it from accell to decell but the bolt was only slightly loose only abot 3/4 of a turn. I suspect that if was looser it would do it more frequently I.E. decell to acell, defantly worth a look.

Can you maybe post pictures of where you gotta tighten the screws and of how to do the whole process? I have no idea where to start...

Which 3 bolts are you talking about? I looked straight back from the rear, right behind the spare tire well .
