| I believe StopTech used to have/test/sell a brake system that clamped the entire rotor. They used to run them on some old Motorola Cup Porsche's but I haven't seen them in racing since then.

| The only explanation I can come up with is that they stop too violently for consumer use, also that, with that amount of friction the wheel would simply lock up and not brake.

| They're not drum brakes because they don't use a drum. They use a disk with pads that squeeze each side of the rotor. A dual caliper setup would work, but is too complex to bother with in most circumstances. |
