| So as of this weekend, I'm a happy owner of my first ever BMW (1991 325ic). It's a great car and I'm thrilled... My only problem in this purchase is an outstanding issue w/ the power top: it does not move the top up/down, it's just making a clicking sound as if it's jammed or off track. My guess is the motor is either shot or the mechanism is broke. Meanwhile, I'm s.o.l. w/ enjoying this convertible because although I can manually push the top down, the lid won't lock in place the way the manual does. I'd really appreciate some advice from anyone that's seen this ordeal before. Cheers, Joe |

| I assumed you have already checked along the track, and all of the power connections? - You may try disconecting the motor from the gears to see if it is broken or not.

| This morning I spent some time digging thru the entire system... turns out one of the mechanical gear systems in the back (specifically the one that lifts the lid, not the one that moves the top) is missing, the motor gear doesn't align w/ the mechanism when it's engaged, and there isn't a way to adjust it. So... looks like I'm gonna have to buy a new assembly, and I'll probably just do both so I have piece of mind. Any suggestions on where to get the parts?? I'm thinking I might as well do new, rather than chance used. Cheers, Joe |
