325is Clutch Problems?

A friend of mine has a 1994 325is. We were driving along one day and after we parted and he got home, he gave me a call and said that his car wouldn't move anywhere. He explained to me that his car just simply doesn't move anywhere after he engages the clutch, puts it in gear and let's the cluth go. He said he was driving it hard and after he tried to hit 3rd gear, the car just didn't accelerate anywhere after he let the clutch go. When he stopped the car wouldn't move under any gear including reverse. I told him it had to be the clutch, but he said it's weird because the clutch didn't slowly wear out like it's supposed to, it just suddenly completely burned. I have no idea what this could be and neither does he, so if anyone had any experience with this let me know, I'd really appreciate it.

I did that with my 300ZX, drove it hard, slammed it into second, and it completely disintegrated. However, I was able to get it home by the clutch backing slipping on the flywheel (it was all sorts of pretty colors when I pulled it off) at about 5 mph. He may have also broken all the fingers off of his pressure plate. Either way, he's looking at a complete clutch kit. Resurface the flywheel also.
