S54 Challenge: M Coupe vs M3

From your all experiances out there, which is a better car...(faster, more stable, better handling):

The E46 M3 or the S54 powered M Coupe?

The weight alone should create a better car for the track out of the M Coupe, but the extra power of the M3 would be nice.

What's the difference between the engines of the two cars?

From what I have gathered, the M Coupe is performs better. The engines are the same in both cars, it is just that the M Coupe exhaust is different (resulting in less HP).

Same here. Thats why I bought an E30 M3. Its very tail happen, but with that said it is very controlable unlike the E36. Really taught me how to drive a car to its limits.

From what I've gathered nothing can beat the M Coupe platform handling wise - It's almost perfect.

I believe it's at the highest SCCA category (A) and the M3 is in B...thus no doubt the Coupe is the shit...

Definitely not a bad thing for a car to be tail-happy as long as it's balanced, as the M-coupe is. I was just throwing it out for information purposes. Definitely gives you a more raw feeling to the car.

Wow, I thought this was going to be a landslide for the E46 M3. Everything I have read says that because the M Coupe uses the e30s semi-trailing arms suspension, you'd better not be caught snoozing unless the road is absolutely ideal (no rough pavement, potholes, etc) or you're on a track. And in the wet the M Coupe is supposed to be a handful. It didn't even come with DSC until 2000 or 2001 (not that that's a bad thing.... ) I have gotten the overall impression that the M3 is just more civilized and controlled.

in the hands of a not so good driver... we may have a problem.

M-coupe is the closest thing to a TVR Tuscan in the US as you can get.

Good point. I don't have any problem with a less forgiving car though. I want to learn how to use all of the car...that's why I refuse to buy an Audi.
