Anyone going from Cali to NC at the end of August

Hi All,

I just bought a ti in California. And at around the end of August, I will be driving the thing all the way back to North Carolina. Does anyone happen to need a lift? It would be nice to have someone to drive with. Also, is anyone heading out to the East Coast for college and driving too? I dunno, I am just a bit wary of driving ALL the way out here by myself.
Also, anyone with coast-to-coast driving experience, please get in touch with me, I would like to get some pointers.

Thanks!

I've always felt that it would be one experience to drive across the country with another passenger or two, but a totally different experience if you did it by yourself (definitely not in a bad way). Now, if you're afraid of getting lost, just plan out your route and carry a bunch of maps. If I was in your position (which I might be in a couple of years), I'd do it by myself- but thats just me. Plus, it might be a little tough to find yourself a passenger from DTM (or one of their friends). And don't forget about the coastal roads in Cali when you are there (if you're route accommodates them, of course).

Of course, you can always pick up a hitch-hiker

Sounds safe to want someone to keep you company (and awake). Sounds like alot of fun, but I wouldn't be able to get out of work. So, you did get the Ti in Cali? Cool beans. Have you considered having it transported to you (or at least closer then California). Just thinking that it might be cheaper after gas, lodging, meals, and wear+tear.

Too bad it wasn't later in the winter, I would definately be interested.

Uh, I am too much of a chicken to let people hitch-hike... I keep thinking they will take my new bimmer away. I will have to go from Sacramento to Southern Cali for the first lag of my trip... and going coastal will certainly be a possibility. If I have the money and time to go slowly across the country, it would be not much of a problem... trouble is I gotta do it in 4 to 5 days... that's why a navigator would be helpful.

C'mon, no one out here want to race across the country???

Heh, I was joking about the hitch-hiker thing. I am way too much of chicken to even ponder and idea like that.

I asked about shipping, and only one person replied. My best estimate put it at around 800 bucks... and I can't afford that. Plus, driving across the country has always been on the list of things-to-do-before-I-die. Also, I spoke with the mechanic who worked on the car... he can be totally bullsh*tting, but he says he would take the car across the country no doubt

just find i40 and take it across country. nice, straight drive.

my mom did the drive from chicago to LA alone by going south to i40, and taking that west to cali.

Oh wow... your mom is one brave lady. Yeh, I checked the route briefly, and I-40 would be the way to go. I have AAA... so if anything happens, I can dial for assistance. Anyhow... c'mon, I know there are people out there who wants to cruise across the country in their bimmers... bring it on!

2 friends of mine made it from Laguna Seca to Charlotte in 37 hours in a 98 M3. I'd suggest a V1

Oh, it would also be helpful if people post lags... like from Cali to Texas or something... I would like to have an idea of where would be good places to stay at night.

I'd ship the car. The amount of money you spend on fuel, tire wear, paint damage, windshield chips, potential tickets, food, lodging, etc is definitely worth $800. Not to mention its not much of a cross-country experience when you're by yourself! I'd ship it..

.....a fellow dukie!
I will be making the trip to Durham from Oklahoma around the 15th or 16th....what year are you? Are you in trinity or pratt?
Anyway, I was going to ship my car, but the drive through the mountains and twisties on the way should be too much fun in the 3er.
