Clatter sound when driving/shifting

Does anyone come across a sound (sounds like round plastic checkers being rattled together in a bag) underneath their car when driving in hot temperatures? A slight sound occurs for me (93' 325is), seems when the car shifts gears (automatic trans.). If someone heard this sound before, and knows what it is, please let me know. Is it sounds of disaster, or nothing to worry about.
