Insurance question: high risk drivers...

State Fram sent me letter saying they will discontinue my insurance starting sometime in september... They classified me as a high risk driver, and their policy is not to insure high risk drivers... apparently, their point system is different than the system the state of michigan uses... any ticket is a ticket, and counts for 3 yrs. i had a no-point ticket last year, and to state farm that still counts for so many points (wtf????).

Tried talking to them to see if they would bend the rules ( i get 1 speeding ticket /year on average 5-10 over, no reckless or anything of that nature, hardly an unsafe driver), but there's no way... so my alternative is to go with a different ins co, which will probably charge me around $250/mth


What the hell do i do... i am not paying that much, the car's not worth 3k/yr in insurance. i can buy the cheap no fault insurance which doesn't cover shit, and self basically insure it... or sell the car, buy some pos (i don't think so!!!).

If any of you guys have similar experiences, or advice, please let me know.. thanks in advance

By a $4 CRX HB, make ourself primary driver, then get someone else to insure themselves on your BMW as primary driver and you as secondary or something of the sort.

i have state farm too, and i think the policy is 3 tickets in a certain number of years and ur just dropped, no increase per ticket, etc.

btw, i pay 3k a year with a squeeky clean record. great to be young, aint it? :P

i got a reckless and a few speeding tickets and i had to cancel my insurence and get a beater if i want to get insured on my bimmer it will be 700 a month on insurence but it will go down in Jan i learn my lesson even my beater the insurence on a 86 celeca is 200 a month

kinda off topic but do fix-it tickets and late registration tickets count on your insurance?

When I bought my M, I was paying close to $600.00 a month for insurance.... That was three years ago....

No tickets in three years of driving her, and I have turned 25.... now I pay less than 120.00/month for full coverage.

well.. i drive 30k+ miles /yr... getting a speeding ticket per year is not that much, you know what I mean... i have one ticket still active on my driving license, but the insurance point work in differently... i knew there was a reason why I hate insurance companies, pigs, and the "non-existing" ticket quotas.

i currently pay 135 for full... broad coverage.

yeah, my father can't drive a nice car ( well are really nice one), cause he has a 99 Passat with over 150k on it, cause he drives alot, but i comes with the sales job, so his insrance is higher than mine on the bimmer cause he gets tickets and shit, so for his birthday I think i might get him a V1

I drive alot but i got a daily driver and a weekend car, but I have been lucky to get safe driver discount and good student.

Man how do you guys afford car insurance. If mine was 600 a month, i think i would either sell it or just throw liability on it and be very careful. You work to just pay insurance. Thats crazy. Mine is $165 a month and i think that is to high. It used to only be $30 a month. I am 23 years old. I only have liability though. Couldnt afford full coverage since im trying to finish school.
