burned through my tires

got my tires last Sept. Potenza S03s. They are more than ready to be replaced! Not even a year. Course thats with a day at the track (115miles on the track :-)).

Still it feels like they went through their tread (err i went through their tread) very fast.

They've been great though.. minus their life.

Is less than a year common? I've had my car a year and a half and gone with 2 sets of tires now (the ones there were on it originally, and then the s03s).

Am i going to drive slower or softer... NO.

Was thinking about cutting a corner and getting the kumho ecsta mx instead of the pricey s03s. Or perhaps the dunlop sp 9ks.

This is calif driving only.. no worry about snow.. not much rain to bother with either.

Suggestions on tires?

Thanks.

Tires dont last for X years, they last for X miles, varying with how they are treated.....

How many miles did you get out of them?

my 235/40/ZR17 S0-3's have a touch over 10,000 miles on them, and are almost half warn.

I dont do much peeling out, just driving hard, cornering fast, and the occasional 1st/2nd gear drift.

S03's are a fairly soft tire as it is, they have excellent grip and excellent water traction, but their life is reduced by their great grip. I guess SP Sport 9000's are harder, but they won't grip as much. It's all a trade-off.

I had a couple of sets of the SO3s, and then switched to a kumho due to the savings...... I LOVE THEM!

And I think I went with the cheap ones.... the Kumho Ecsta Supra 712 - Tire rack has them for $86.00 up front, $98.00 in the rear.....

Living in Seattle, Wet traction was a big issue for me... I haven't noticed a difference since switching to the Kumhos....

I won't go back!

Yeah, i love my sp 9000s, Ive had them for more than 8000 miles, and there is very little wear.

When i purchased my car from some jerk dealer in NH, I told him I wanted him to replace the tires with stock dunlops. he put on dunlop FM 901s. I hadn't heard of them, but I saw that they were z-rated dunlops so i figured they would be fine... the things handled like crap. in fact, i just read an article about pro drifting, and apparently all the drivers use fm 901s because of their amazing LACK of grip. ... Thanks a lot Ike...
