| So i am probably getting a m3 Ok, i have convinced myself and my parents to let my uncle get me a m3. But they are asking why do i want to get a m3 vs a 3sr cabrio, which is what i have right now. But since i never owned a m3 before or read much on it i cant really tell them much. So to all you m3 owners or anyone who knows anything on this, what are the advantages of having a m3 over a 3series cabrio? Oh, yea, the one i am getting will probably be a convertible m3 also and possibly a manual or a auto, so if you can give feedback on either of those that'd be cool too. Thanks for all your imput

| ITs a M3.... any color looks great and and every year has its own advantages.... The convertible that you are talking about only 97-99 models so it will be more expensive... If I where in your shoes I would get my uncle to buy a 95 Dakar Yellow M3, 5 speed and spend 10 grand on mods... Last edited by BLACKTAPE : 07-02-2003 at 10:01 AM. |

| I would say learn a little something about the car before you considering buying one. How do you know you want it if you can't explain to your parents why.... As for your parents buying you a used M3, i'll just leave that one alone... Chris, care to comment? ![]() |

| They arent buying me a m3, i will use the money for the 3 series i got and buy a m3, and i need to let em know cause it's my mom's brother that will be buying the car so i can get it off him, he has a dealer liscense. And i mean if anyone can possibly give me info on a manual and a auto m3s if there is anything significant that isnt obvious. I am also just getting additional info on the car, the small things that i dont know or i havent payed attention to or that i missed, but i know the general idea of differences between the cars.

All kidding aside, it is natural for him to want an M3. I sure wanted something nice at his age. And for all I know here I am making sport of the kid and he could be a very responsible driver! Good luck Airborne506. To answer your question the M3 is more powerful, and handles better than the non-M E36. The interior has M appointments. And some ///M badging. Also I cannot conceive of a bigger waste of an M3 than an automatic convertible, but I do know the trophy wives on Hilton Head and in Naples would disagree with me. ![]() |

| Yea, i would really like to have a manual, but i am not lookin for real high speeds like for tracks or anything so a slow vert is ok with me. The only thing is my parents as all of yours were probably were when you guys first got cars or not...but mine are all frantic about how fast i drive and stuff. I mean i aint the best driver and all, but i think driving 40mph on a 45mph street is pretty safe in the conditions i was driving. And by all i means i know i probably think i am good at driving right now, but a few years later or more down the road i will see otherwise. I just really want to just get one car and keep it and mod it etc or whatever to it. And getting a m3 will be a start jump cause it already has more good qualities vs a 3series vert. So that is one of the main things i am wanting to get a m3.

| Not really, i dont really care what it says back there as long as there is something there. And i rather have a m3 because i wouldnt mind more power, but i dont need the amount of power you do on a track. Also i like the body kit that the m3 has, and instead of wasting more money just to change those small things i might as well get a m3.

| Agreed. Plus it will be a jump to a newer car with potentially fewer problems in the long run - or at least a bit longer before the normal E36 drama run begins. Not to mention - and let's be serious here - that no one in their right minds is going to turn away the upgrade from the 325 to the M. |

| i believe the 0-60 time of the e36 m3 coupe convertible and sedan are the same....

| didn't really read all of the posts, but don't get an automatic unless you dont enjoy driving in general. I see it completely pointless to get an M3 and then cut off it's balls with an auto tranny. No need to get a 95 just convert it to obdI. |
