| If you had...let's say...$21K to spend on your car would you: A) continue modding your slow '98 323is (automatic) behind your mother's back (because the car is in her name), or.... B) Buy a car of my own, and go crazy with it. I could easily pour it into the 323is...trying to make it fast...but is it worth it?

| I would take that 21 and put 15k of it down on a new car or a 99 m3 and then bank the rest. I wouldn't dump 21k into a 323..

| I would take $21K and place it in different mutual funds ... if you have $21K in liquid cash ... don't even think about it. Drive with the 323i now and deal with it.... that's my advice. Otherwise, I would take ONLY $10K and get an older E36 3-series and have fun with that. NO WAY should you dump all of that money into one vehicle IMHO. |

| $21k liquid cash? I think like someone else said, i would save it up and keep it in the bank. Doesn't make sense to dump it into a 1998 323.... Or do what Dado said, pickup a 95 M3 for $12k to $15k and go from there ![]()

| Or save up a bit more, use half of it or so as a down payment for say, an E46 M3. Use the money left over to make monthly payments on the car and that way, you'll have a nice car that you don't have to mod to make it look nice. No offense to anyone, but the E36 look is a bit dated. Perhaps go with something newer, more powerful. |

| I agree with Dado, get a 95 M3....get it serviced, replace all the wear items and save the rest. If you end up feeling the urge for more power just dump a little change into mods.

| how old are you? if your young save the $ invest it and u can return 10-20% a year if you do it right (seek expert help if needed) i dont know if u have college in the future or whatnot but u got a nice car 98 323is is a good car for a college kid assuming thats around ur age since ur cars still in your moms name... i love my 323is mayybe spend alittle on the car but definatly dont dump a ton of money into it |

| If I had $21K cash, I would put it as a DP on a house or condo, rent it out, and then after one year, withdraw equity assuming that the housing market goes up, and that equity should be enough to pay off a nice 99 M3.

Then when you're 21, that house will be worth more after perhaps a little work and you can sell it for a lot and buy yourself a really nice house somewhere else. (Or maybe a down payment) |

| Thanks for the finnacial advice eveyone, but I already have investments (I was lucky enough to be given them at a young age)...so a house and college are more than covered. Don't think this $21K is the only money I have to my name... Thanks to your advice and the advice from people on BF, my 323is is being sold.....my mother will probably take all the money...but at least now I have an excuse to buy an m3 (she may even help me out with the insurance if I play my cards right). (I'm 18 and a senior in highschool BTW.) I'm trying to decide if I want an odbI or obdII m3 (do I have this right, are these my two options for the E36?) The 3.2 seems more appealing...maybe a '96...how nice an M could I get for about $16500 (I want to spend the rest on reconditioning and mods)? Is it possible for me to get one in really really good conditon for this kind of cash? Thanks for all your help.
