Chevy V8 in a E36?

Hey All,

I know this is a really goofy question, but it's a crazy thought I had last night just for fun.

I might be buying a wrecked '95 318ti, and I've got a spare built chevy 350 putting out a bit over 400hp that was going to go in my vette and I had this crazy idea last night, would it be possible to put a chevy v8 in a 318ti?

I was thinking of building the car for racing only, ie stripped interior (interior is toast after 6 months of exposure to the weather), larger rims out back, cut the fender wells.

Has anyone done any sort of chevy conversion of a bmw? Any links or resources?

My big questions are the flywheel / clutch setup, what would be used? Would the bmw transmission hold up? I don't have a spare tranny for my motor so I'd want to use the bmw one.

I know mass people shoe horning v8s into porsche's.

It's kind of a silly idea but I could get the car cheap, already have the motor, and it'd be a rocket with as lightweight as a stripped 318ti would be with 400+ hp, obviously I'd need a rear end out of an m3 or something else to handle the power as I think the 318 would explode.

Thanks,
Bob

*ducks for the flame wars this will cause, mind you I drove my 99 m3 to work today

Someone on this board actually did it. They took an LS-1 or an LT-1 and stuffed it into their 318. Did it all from scavanged parts. That was about a year ago. I forgot who. Guys, can you help out on this one. I think the dude all but vanished.

My Bad, it's actually an LS6 powered e30! Heres the link,

Clicky

Sure, there's gonna be differences, but as far as the parts are concerned, I think they'll be the same.

Spend the $10, $20 it costs to become a member. It's worth it. You can access the tech forums. That's where the articles are. It's actually worth it. I've saved soooo much money by getting the contributing membership here. It pays itself off with the DIY walkthroughs. It's 10 or 20 bux. Just cut back on a case or two of beer and you'll thank yourself later.

There is actually a number of tuners in Germany that will throw a v12 into your ti

...so I guess a v8 shouldn't be a problem

Been working on it for a while, I'll copy them to the photo gallery over here shortly.

Now that I'm contributing can anyone tell me where to get a passenger side front 1/4 panel for a good price? Preferably in hellrot red but I'll take any color, I need to fix this damage asap it looks like ass!!

How gay would that be to put a totally different engine in a BMW. Then it won't be a Bimmer anymore. Just get a M and s/c or t/c is, but wait..........it won't be a true Bimmer then either, because any moderate-major altering you do to a car, changes the car's characteristics.

So your saying not to modify a BMW because its gay? I don't get it

I'd also be interested in seeing a v8 in a ti... one of those freak BMW conversions that you see every so often. Just make sure you put a blower coming out of the hood to enhance the evil factor
