| please tell me we dont have these this guy is a complete moron: http://www.newhousenews.com/archive/jensen061203.html but my question is if our cars come with these type of 'black boxes' that can be used against us like that. |

| Those black boxes are coming on a lot of the higher end GM cars already. There is talk about OBDIII to build this feature in to the cars computer. Hopefully, someone will figure out a way to disengage them. Pete

| I guess this is a good reason to boycott GM and any other automaker that employs this system (as far as I know, BMW does not have a system like this). I do not see how they can legally monitor their customers actions like that, and I am sure they are able to monitor a lot more than the last 5 seconds if they wanted to. I am sure there is no contract customers have to sign that states their vehicle is equipped with covert surveillance equipment to spy on them. Almost equally scary is the equipment has been tested and deemed unreliable in certain situations. Yet, dazzled by this new evasive technology, the judge choose to disregard those tests.

| Yeah, i once heard about saab having those kind of black boxes in theír cars, but never knew they could send somebody to prison with them, that is totally sick!!

| they have to be recording the entire trip because they cannot tell when you are going to have an accident... now maybe they only remember the 10 seconds before the accident... but the fact is... that can quickly change |

| thought OBDII already have black box type recorders, I remember reading a post bout two years ago from a guy who overrevved his 99 m3 and the dealer retreived the last position of the revs and gear and voided his warranty. What the hell would a black box help, unless it recorded what happened before a deadly crash with exterior/interior mounted cameras. |

I heard a funny story of a guy who took his On-Star car to a driving event. On-star called him in the middle of one of his track sessions to ask him if everything was okay, because they had been monitoring his car driving in an erratic and dangerous manor.
